Blink Overview:
Blink were one of the most popular pop-punk bands at the turn of the century, melding bratty, juvenile humor with infallible melodies. On albums like Enema of the State and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, this San Diego trio built off the suburban-punk aesthetic of Green Day for songs about insecure guys and unobtainable girls, becoming superstars in the process. Blink made a bid for maturity later in their career, but internal tensions fractured the group, causing their breakup in The band reunited four years later.
Blink's Origins:
Blink got together in the suburbs outside San Diego, California, in the early s. Inspired by a high school friendship between guitarist Tom DeLonge and bassist Mark Hoppus, the group started working on punk-influenced material, aided by drummer Scott Raynor. The band simply went by Blink initially, but they changed their moniker to Blink to avoid a dispute with a similarly-named group. Blink recorded the independent records Buddha and Cheshire Cat, but by , the group was ready to start making more overt commercial inroads.

blink is a Southern California, pop-punk band that was formed in by Tom Delonge, Mark Hoppus, and Scott Raynor in the northern San Diego suburb of Poway, California. Travis Barker replaced Raynor on drums in , midway through blink's US tour.
The group is known for its catchy melodies, as well as for satirical, and sometimes profanity-laden, toilet humour. Musically, the band plays up-tempo songs with prominent major-chord harmonies, often digitally mixed, to provide a much cleaner sound than typical punk/rock recordings, which generally exhibit distortion and analogue mixes to achieve the opposite effect. The lyrical content of their songs, prior to their last album, are humorous and uplifting.
Although the band is labelled as Blink on albums prior to Raynor's departure, the current and official rendering of the band's name is blink The numbers are added to the band's name to prevent a trademark conflict with the Irish techno group, Blink.
