How important is the Indian market for Boeing? How have you seen it growing and what are the latest developments?
Boeing has been in India for over 75 years now. We started jet aviation in India with Air India. Since then, India has gone through major transformations and aviation in the country is the fastest growing in world. Growth rate is more than 20 pc per year.
Obviously, airports have also seen that growth and that’s why development of new airports is being talked about, for instance, in Navi Mumbai. Existing airports have also been significantly upgraded over the years – Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, etc.

Dinesh Keskar was appointed President of Boeing India on 1st March , with direct charge of civil aviation, as well as Boeings defence business in India. In his first media interaction since his appointment he discusses Boeings initiatives for cracking Indias defence market.
Q. How big are the opportunities for Boeing in India's defence market?
For me India is not new. Ive been working here since but handling Boeings defence business is new to me and Ill be the first to admit that. But there are clearly significant opportunities coming up in India.
The P8I deal (Indias $ purchase of Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft) that we did earlier this year is a military watershed for us there are new RFPs (Requests for Proposals, or calls for tenders) in the areas of helicopters and the fighter deal (Indias proposed $11 billion purchase of medium fighter aircraft). We think we have products and technologies that we can share and partner with India.

The sudden demise of former President APJ Abdul Kalam on July 27, left people mourning in India. Over 12,km away in Seattle too, a pall of gloom descend on Boeings manufacturing plant, where the former President had charmed and impressed the employees during his visit in Later Dinesh Keskar, Senior Vice-President, Asia-Pacific and India, Boeing Aeroplanes called Kalam “a friend of a lot of people, including Boeing.”
During the visit, the former President had shown an interest in meeting Joe Sutter, the man who designed the double-decker aircraft, the Boeing , which is popularly known as the Jumbo Jet. “The former President knew of him (Sutter) and wanted to meet him,” recalls Keskar.
The visit to the Seattle plant was Kalam’s first to the Boeing’s manufacturing facility. The year-old Sutter, often called the Father of the , was there. Indian American Dinesh Keskar has been appointed by the world's leading aerospace company and the largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, Boeing Company, to lead Boeing India from March.

The Boeing on Monday named Ian Thomas President of Boeing Australia and South Pacific, and Dinesh Keskar Vice-President of Boeing International and President of Boeing India.
Keskar, 54, originally from Rajkot, India, will represent the entire enterprise and be responsible for leading Boeing-wide efforts focused on expanding the company's local presence and pursuing new growth and productivity initiatives.
