What happened to stars of hit motel soap of 70s & 80s?

What's the connection between an American named Alfred Heineman and the late soap queen Noele Gordon?
No, I agree, it’s not immediately obvious. But Heineman opened the world’s first motel in world, almost accidentally, in San Luis Obispo, California in December
By fate or economy – the stories vary – it became the first to squeeze the words “motor hotel” into “motel”.
Charging charged $ per room per night, it was luxurious for its time, comprising a number of small bungalows with private garages.
And it started the trend for overnight stops for motorists in individual accommodation.
With the increase in the number and popularity of cars, adventurous travellers were starting to take trips that previously were impossible.
But while most big cities already had hotels, there wasn’t much accommodation for motorists. Many were forced to sleep in their cars or camp overnight.
Alfred and Arthur Heineman proposed a chain of motor hotels, with the first on the side of the
Zeph Gladstone Edit Profile
Actor
Zephyrine Frances "Zeph" Gladstone was a British television actress, from Norwood in south London.
Career
She was best known for her role as the tart with a heart hairdresser Vera Downend on the soap opera Crossroads, a role she played from to Gladstone started her television career in Independent Television Play of the Week in She moved on to a permanent part on the series Dixon of Dock Green, but it is her role on Crossroads that was most enduring.
Gladstone started on the series in June , playing an experienced hairdresser setting up a salon business in the Crossroads Motel.
Despite a rough veneer and bad choices, Gladstones character, Vera Downend, was essentially a positive character and developed favourable fan reaction. Gladstone was signed to a contract, which she kept until her departure in October
Gladstones most famous role would also be her last on television She died in London in at the age of
In , Meg married her long-term suitor Hugh Mortimer (John Bentley). After a short period of married bliss, the character was dispatched to Australia on a "big business deal" and then, in , killed off - dying of a heart attack whilst in the custody of international terrorists.
Hugh was very popular with viewers, and his wedding to Meg had been a tremendous spectacle, greatly enjoyed.
As if his departure wasn't enough, we suddenly learned that Hugh was not such a great businessman. He was in serious debt at the time of his death. Meg had to sell off motel shares, thus ceasing to be a majority shareholder, to pay off those debts.
Edward Clayton as Stan Harvey was part of the family at the Motel - he'd married Meg's daughter, Jill, and was one of the show's dependable and likeable characters - part of its stability. He was dispatched around the same time as Hugh Mortimer.
And like Hugh, the character was presented in rather an unsympathetic light upon his departure.
It was all a great shame.
And I still find it a puzzle.
As for me personally, I particularly missed Zeph Gladstone as Vera Downend.

Dear old Vera Downend! Played by Zeph Gladstone, Vera is one of my absolute-ultimate-favourite Crossroads characters. I love her.
Ex-tart Vera started out in Crossroads living next door to single mother Diane Lawton, who had a grotty bedsit, in She was originally quite a slovenly character, but good-hearted and quickly became a hit with us viewers.
So Vera smartened up (in her own way) and came to the motel to open a hairdressing salon and live on the Harvey family's barge on the canal.
Wilf Harvey advanced Vera 3, to start the salon so, although we remember him mainly for being a grouse, he certainly wasn't all bad.
Vera was another of those magical Crossroads characters you felt you could confide in and, during my often troubled youth, I could have done with a chat with her on many occasions. In fact sometimes, in my imagination, I did visit her boat to confide in her - and, occasionally, when troubled, still do!
