Aishwarya, who was flooded with film offers since she started modelling, decided to finally take them up after completing her Miss World duties. Her first movie, Iruvar (), was a Tamil movie, directed by renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Many thought this was a very unconventional choice given her fame and appeal, but Aishwarya followed her heart instead and portrayed dual roles in the film.
