Catherine of Aragon (also spelt as Katherine, Spanish: Catalina; 16 December – 7 January ) was Queen of England as the first wife of King Henry VIII from their marriage on 11 June until their annulment on 23 May Born in Spain, she was Princess of Wales while married to Henry's elder brother, Arthur, Prince of Wales, for a short period before his death.

CATHERINE OF ARAGON, Queen of Henry VIII of England, daughter of Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, was born on the 15th or 16th of December She left Spain in to marry Arthur, prince of Wales, eldest son of King Henry VII, and landed at Plymouth on the 2nd of October. The youngest surviving child of the ‘Catholic Kings’ of Spain, Catherine of Aragon – (Katharine) – was born on 16 December , the same year that Henry VII established the Tudor dynasty. At the age of three, she was betrothed to his infant son, Prince Arthur. In , shortly before her sixteenth birthday, Katharine sailed to England. But her marriage to Arthur lasted less than six months and was supposedly never consummated. Katharine was then betrothed to Arthur’s younger brother, Prince Henry. When he became king in , at the age of eighteen, he promptly married Katharine and they lived together happily for many years. But their marriage produced just one living child, a daughter called Mary, and Henry was desperate for a male heir. He also fell deeply in love with another woman. Cast aside, Katharine fought against great odds to deny Henry an annulment. But the king would not be denied and when the Catholic church would not grant the annulment, he declared himself head of a new Catherine of Aragon was the youngest daughter of two monarchs, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castile & Leon. Her parents marriage had united their kingdoms to form the country of Spain that we know today. Born at Alcala de Henares in December , she was only two years old when King Henry VII of England approached her parents concerning the possibility of her marrying his eldest son, Prince Arthur, who was nine months her junior.
