Carlos Rey Norris was born in Ryan, Oklahoma on March 10, His father was a World War II army soldier, mechanic, bus and truck driver. He has two younger brothers, one of which was killed in Vietnam. As a child, Norris was shy, quiet and nonathletic. His father had a drinking problem, and he went on binges sometimes for months at a time.
