Neil Sedaka was born in New York in His father was a taxi driver. His grandparents came to the U.S. from Constantinople in Sedaka demonstrated musical capabilities early in life. His second-grade teacher suggested that he take piano lessons. His mother took the part-time job to pay for his experiences.
In he successfully auditioned for Juilliard School of Music Preparatory Division for Children and got a piano scholarship. Although his mother wanted him to become a classical pianist, Sedaka grew interested in pop music. When he was 13, his neighbor introduced him to the year-old Howard Greenfield - aspiring poet and lyricist. They became friends and two of the Brill Building’s composers.

Neil Sedaka is an American pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. He was born on March 13, , in Brooklyn, New York, to immigrant parents. As a schoolboy, Neil demonstrated his own abilities and obvious musical talent. A teacher recommended to Neil's mother that he be sent to learn music, specifically piano. His mother worked overtime to buy him an instrument. In , Neil began attending a music school where he studied classical music and learned to play the piano. At the same time, Sedaka developed a passion for popular music and started writing lyrics for songs when he turned Interestingly, Sedaka was accompanied by another well-known figure, poet Howard Greenfield.
