Composer. Born on 31 January in Vienna, Austria; died there on 19 November A pupil of Holzer and Salieri, he gave early promise of genius. His first mass in F was performed in He composed the Erl King at eighteen. Rosamunde and the Mass in E flat date from to , his prolific period. The celebrated Ave Maria was written in The songs, with which his fame is perhaps most closely associated, number over A dozen of them, including the three Shakespearean songs of , and the Winterreise cycle of , are considered masterpieces. His orchestral compositions culminated in the C major Symphony of His gift is illustrated by the wide range of forms in which he composed. He is compared with Beethoven, his contemporary; but he was incapable of that masters labors for perfection, whatever he produced being spontaneous and rarely revised. Dying at the age of 31, as he had lived, in abject poverty and disappointment, unmourned by the world at large, it required the publication of his abundant posthumous works to bring him into prominence. His music is in itself a complete memoir of his life.

Early Life
Born on January 31, , in Himmelpfortgrund, Austria, Franz Peter Schubert demonstrated an early gift for music. As a child, his talents included an ability to play the piano, violin and organ. He was also an excellent singer.
Franz was the fourth surviving son of Franz Theodor Schubert, a schoolmaster, and his wife, Elisabeth, a homemaker. His family cultivated Schubert's love of music. His father and older brother, Ignaz, both instructed Schubert early in his musical life.
Eventually, Schubert enrolled at the Stadtkonvikt, which trained young vocalists so they could one day sing at the chapel of the Imperial Court, and in he earned a scholarship that awarded him a spot in the court's chapel choir. His educators at the Stadtkonvikt included Wenzel Ruzicka, the imperial court organist, and, later, the esteemed composer Antonio Salieri, who lauded Sch

Franz Peter Schubert ( – ) was an Austrian composer of the late classical period. Despite his frequent poverty, he was remarkably prolific in his short-life span of 31 years. His wide-ranging oeuvre comprises over lieders (songs), nine symphonies (including the famous Unfinished Symphony), liturgical music, operas, and a large body of chamber and solo piano music and the famous melody for Ave Maria. He is particularly noted for his original melodic and harmonic writing, which is a feature of the Romantic period.

Schubert was born into a musical family on 31 January in Himmelpfortgrund, Austria, From an early age, he displayed a gifted talent for music. He was taught by his father and brother to play the violin and piano, but he soon surpassed them and calmly mentioned he no longer needed their training. Like many great composers, he had an innate gift to understand the musical world.
