XIAO CHUA: A GLIMPSE OF HIS HISTORY

Said Michael Charleston “Xiao” Chua with a sense of confidence and determination in response to the harsh criticisms he received as a teacher, artist, historian and an author.
Born and raised on the soils of Tarlac, Xiao Chua was the eldest of the three children of Vilma and Charles Chua. Although having a Chinese surname, Mr. Chua claims to be a pure Filipino in heart and in mind. He is currently a History professor in De La Salle University but “rackets” [as a tour-lecturer and as a host] and extra for local TV networks such as PTV-4 and GMA back in the days, but mainly focuses now on writing columns and articles such as the “Bonifacio: Unang Pangulo.”

Michael Charleston “Xiao” Briones Chua teaches History at De La Salle University Manila. He is a BA and MA history graduate and Ph.D. Anthropology candidate in UP Diliman. He is co-author of the book Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo (Anvil, ) and Bayani Biographies: Andres Bonifacio (Kahel Press, ). He has also published various refereed articles in reputable academic journals in the country.
He was an original bottomliner in the Bottomline with Boy Abunda from Historical consultant of History with Lourd (TV5), teleseryes Katipunan and Ilustrado (GMA 7). The creator of Xiao Time television segment at PTV4 () which is now a Abante Sunday column (since ). He also writes a Saturday column for the Manila Times (since ).
