Travaillant majoritairement sur la réutilisation et la réappropriation des objets et des matériaux usagés, Tejo Remy est membre du collectif hollandais Droog Design, dès sa création en Ce dernier édite sa première Rag Chair la même année. Soucieux d’intégrer une démarche éco-responsable, le musée des Arts décoratifs s’est proposé d’inviter Tejo Remy à réaliser in situ une nouvelle Rag Chair, composée de chutes de lin fourni par les entreprises de la filière européenne du lin (Martinelli Ginetto, Norther Linen, Libeco, LGD01, Nelen & Delbeke) qu’il aura sélectionnées à partir des éléments de scénographie de l’exposition temporaire «Luxes».

Droog Design: Extremely Modern Even after Thirty Years
Milan, April Droog Design (in Dutch, “sparse”, “unadorned”, “direct” design) first appeared at the ‘Fuorisalone’, or Outsider Salon, as the initiative was already being called by insiders, during an exhibition organised in a flat on Via Cerva. The highlight was a series of self-manufactured pieces produced by a group of Dutch designers who had been selected by art critic Renny Ramakers and designer Gijs Bakker, and whose elemental, innovative work made an immediate impact on viewers. International recognition followed for a movement that was youthful in terms of both its history – founded only a few months earlier, it had only one noteworthy exhibition to its credit, an event held in one of the Amsterdam’s best-known music clubs – and the average age of its members, most of whom were recent university graduates only known, up until then, locally. Tejo Remy was born in in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He studied at the Utrecht School of Arts.
The drawings were born in the early 90s from a critical attitude towards the design culture of the 80s. The approach lies at the border between design and visual art. The work raises questions about the usefulness, necessity and use of things. Tejo Remy has collaborated with Droog Design since its inception with the classics such as the Chest of Drawers 'You can't lay down your memory' chest of drawers, the Rag Chair and the Milkbottle Lamp, and has gained international acclaim.
The chest of drawers has been classified as one of the best creations of the last years of Dutch design and has achieved iconic status.
His works are exhibited worldwide and are part of several collections, among others: MOMA, New York; Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Helsinki Design Museum

Anfang der 90er Jahre folgte auf das Übermaß der Achtziger Jahre die Konsumkritik. Ein Teil dieser Kritik kam vom Designkollektiv „Droog“, die zu diesem Zeitpunkt erstmals ihre ironischen und konzeptionellen Entwürfe darstellten. Mit dabei war das im Jahr entworfene Möbel „Chest of Drawers“ von Tejo Remy. Remy sammelte hierfür alte Schubladen, die er in ein neues Gehäuse aus Ahornholz steckte und mit einem Spanngurt zusammenschnürte. Jede einzelne Schublade wurde von dem Designer nummeriert und signiert. Der Käufer kann diese Anordnung nach Belieben verändern. „Chest of Drawers“ steht für Remy als Prozess gegen die Exzesse des Konsums. Sehr schnell wurde das Möbel zum Bestseller von Droog.
Tejo Remy studierte vor dem Entwurf von „Chest of Drawers“ von bis 3D-Design an der HKU in Utrecht. Gleich nach seinem Studium begann die Zusammenarbeit mit Droog Design. Inzwischen arbeitet Tejo Remy als freier Designer in Utrecht und lehrt dort an der Hochschule der Künste. Gemeinsam mit Rene Veenhuizen hat er das Label Remy/Veenhuizen gegründet und seitdem zahlreiche Produkte entworfen.
